The women’s basketball team is off to a fast start this season. The Lady Bobcats are 3-1 with help from sophomore Kelsey Wilcox, who is averaging 17 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

The men’s basketball team is not off to a fast start, however. The Bobcats are 0-4 but none of the games were against conference opponents. The team looks to get its first win Wednesday night, Nov. 28 at home against Frostburg State in UPG’s conference opener.

The Lady Bobcats also look to continue their winning ways, too. The women host Frostburg State at 6 p.m. on Nov. 28 followed by the men’s game.

Freshmen Jacquet Wells may be as good as advertised. He scored 24 points in the Bobcats last game against St. Vincent, a 74-62 loss at home. He is also leading the team in rebounds, averaging six-and-a-half per game.

Forward Daniel Waajid made his presence felt in his first game back in a UPG uniform. Waajid scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the Bobcats 92-59 loss at Bethany. He also played 27 minutes against St. Vincent and scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Senior forward Ed Montgomery is off to a slow start. Through three games, he was averaging only 2 points per game. In the last game against St. Vincent, Montgomery shot only 2-9 from the field (1-6 from three-point range) and one of six from the free throw line. He did, however, collect seven rebounds.

Wilcox isn’t the only sophomore making an early impact. Forward Amanda Sheaffer scored a game-high 17 points and collected seven rebounds in the Lady Bobcats 67-64 win over Juniata on Nov. 24. She is shooting over 60 percent from the field and averages 10 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

The Lady Bobcats two most experienced players, guards Tiffany Menhorn (senior) and Nicole Reiser (junior) are off to decent starts, too. Menhorn is averaging 13.2 points and 4.2 assists per game. Reiser averages 11 points and 4 rebounds and 2 assists per game.
