Both UPG basketball squads are getting ready to face Penn State Altoona in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament that starts Tuesday.

The women’s team secured the #3 seed in the AMCC tournament and will host #6 seed Lions in a 7 p.m. tipoff. The teams last played each other Feb. 20 with the Lady Bobcats earning an 80-46 victory.

Senior guard Tiffany Menhorn returned to the lineup in the teams’ last meeting after suffering a knee injury against Lake Erie on Jan. 26. The winner of the first round matchup will travel to Medaille College to face the second-seeded Lake Erie Storm Friday at 8 p.m in the semifinals.

The men’s team earned a #5 seed in their tournament and will travel to the #4 Lions in Altoona for a 7 p.m. matchup. It took an extra five minutes to decide the teams’ previous meeting with Penn State Altoona pulling out the 70-60 overtime victory. The winner will travel to face tournament host Penn State Behrend on Friday at 6 p.m. in the semifinal matchup.

SAB and SGA are hosting a pep rally at noon on Tuesday in Chambers Hall to honor the teams. Both teams will be announced and the cheerleading squad will perform. There will also be raffles, prizes, games and ice cream.
