The UPG women’s basketball team’s seven-game winning streak ended Saturday against the Medaille Mavericks. The Lady Bobcats fell 69-55 in the title game of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament last Saturday.

Despite the loss, however, the team earned a high seed in the ECAC South tournament.

Led by Nicole Reiser’s 17-point effort, the teams played a back-and-forth first half that ended with a one-point lead for the Mavericks, 30-29. However, Medaille pulled away in the second frame to earn the 14-point victory.

Medaille dominated the boards, outrebounding the Bobcats 46-35. Sophomore forward Kelsey Wilcox, the Bobcats’ leading rebounder, played only 22 minutes and grabbed just one rebound.

The only other player to reach double figures was freshman Mary Cook with 13. Senior Tiffany Menhorn nearly netted a double-double with a nine-point, nine-rebound effort.

The Bobcats earned the second seed in the ECAC South tournament to be played this week. The team will host seventh-seeded Misericordia at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5. The winner of the matchup will face the winner of the No. 3/No. 6 matchup, either Lebanon Valley or Dickinson, on March 8 in the semifinals.
