Column: No one worth voting for

By Dave Street / Staff writer

Our generation has the opportunity to limit the corruption in politics. Barrack Obama preaches change, but lies to our face. Hillary Clinton wants everybody to have health insurance, but her motives are questionable. Jon McCain wants us to believe he’s a moderate, but his spiritual advisor hates Muslims.

I can’t find a reason to vote for any of the candidates. Obama’s fiery speeches had me believing he was about change. Until his preacher finally forced him to lie. Obama’s preacher, Jeremiah Wright has accused the United States government of infecting African Americans with AIDS and lying about Pearl Harbor.

God damn America-–that’s in the Bible—for killing innocent people,” Wright said. “God damn America for treating us citizens as less than human.”

Wrights statements are controversial, but don’t bother me because Obama can’t control what others say. However, Obama did not condemn Wright; he just said he never heard Wright make any such statements. I find that hard to believe considering Obama has known Wright for over twenty years. He even named his 2006 book “The Audacity of Hope” after a sermon by Wright.

Obama attended Wrights 1990, “Audacity for hope sermon” and was blown away.

“He showed me the door to Jesus.” Obama said of Wright.

Obama the man who preaches change is doing the same thing he accuses the bush administration of, lying. Obama’s been with Wright for eighteen years and wants us to believe he didn’t know Wrights opinions. If you want change don’t vote for the smooth talking Illinois senator.

Obama lies to the faces of American people, but Hillary Clinton tries to hide her true motivations. Clinton desperately wants all Americans to have health care.

When she was first lady she supported a government funded system. In 1993 she locked herself in the White House and devised a health care plan. The plan called for the federal government to increase its role in health care, and for employers to offer health care to all their employees. Democrats, republicans and the entire medical industry rejected the plan.

Clinton accused the Health care industry of “price gouging” and “unconscionable profiting”

According to a story by the New York Times, Clinton has received $150,600 from the health care industy towards her nomination. Since the donations Clinton has gone from supporting a government controlled health system to a private mandatory one.

Her new plan would require Americans to have health insurance to get a job. Unless you are in the bottom 5 percent economically, then the government provides you health insurance, if not you would be forced to buy health insurance.

I don’t want the government telling me have to buy anything, especially health insurance. The real question is why did Clinton’s plan change so much? Her campaign attributed it to “the battle scars” from the war with the health industry. Come on, it’s obvious pharmaceutical companies would benefit greatly if people were forced to buy insurance.

“It’s time to provide quality affordable health care for every American,” Clinton said.

She has the right message; it’s just a shame she had to be bought to say it.

Our third and final option for president is Republican John McCain. An honorable war hero McCain has used his toughness to get himself into some trouble as well.

“We will stay in Iraq for a hundred years if we have to.” McCain said.

His own comments pale in comparison to the ones made by his spiritual advisor, Rod Parsley.

“Allah is the demon spirit, and Muslims are poisoning the world,” Parsley said.

Parsley writes in his book “Silent no More” which is about a recommitment to faith and moral boundaries. Parsley believes the government needs to take a more active role enforcing these guidelines.

“Our time depends on it, our history compels it, our future requires it, and God is watching.”

To sum things up Jon McCain’s spiritual advisor believes the government needs to enforce the Christian faith and step up enforcement of morals. He wants the government to run peoples lives. The most disturbing line is “God is watching.” This man actually believes an invisible man in the sky watches over him. If there is a God, which I highly doubt, he’s watching over someone in a lot more trouble then John McCain’s spiritual advisor.

Again, I can’t fault McCain for what his advisor said, but I can criticize who associates himself with. We just experienced eight years of Bush’s morons like Karl Rove, and Dick Cheney for that matter. It’s obvious McCain has no idea who to associate with either.

Once again great job America, our top candidates are either, a liar, can be bought for money, or trust spiritual advisors that believe the government needs to enforce morals and religion. Our generation does have the power to change things, just not anytime soon.
