Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will be at Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, March 25. The senator has been officially invited by the political honor society Pi Sigma Alpha.

“We are honored and delighted to have her visit our campus and we should be, whether Democrat, Republican, independent, or otherwise, pretty excited to have someone of her caliber on our campus,” said Paul Adams, faculty adviser to the honor society.

Though no official announcement has been made by a university official, word was spreading via text message and e-mail on Friday night that the senator would be here Tuesday afternoon.

Adams said that though the details have yet to be worked out, Clinton is expected to arrive here around 1 p.m.

Adams said the senator’s visit illustrates how important Pennsylvania, Westmoreland County, Pitt-Greensburg students and the community are in this election season.

Adams, a supporter of Clinton rival Barack Obama, said his personal ideas haven’t affected his enthusiasm.

“No matter my personal affiliations, as a faculty member and adviser for the honor society, I’m very, very excited and happy,” Adams said.

The Clinton campaign has stressed the importance of Pennsylvania in her nomination campaign. U.S. Rep. John Murtha, a Johnstown Democrat, announced his endorsement Clinton on March 18.

I’ve known Senator Clinton for 15 years,” Murtha said in a news release. “I know that she continually reaches out for opinions and ideas not just from our nation’s leaders, but from all Americans.”

Murtha said Clinton is the candidate who will forge a consensus on health care, education, the economy, and the war in Iraq.

No announcement has been made about the duration of the senator’s stay or where on campus she will be speaking.
