New class scheduling process to begin

The students and faculty of Pitt-Greensburg this academic year will be the first to experience the new self registration process for scheduling classes online.

“The Provost’s office in Oakland has asked the regional campuses to pilot the self-registration process before main campus starts self-registration in the Spring of 2010,” senior academic advisor Michele Shuey said.

As part of a new package through the Peoplesoft systems, students will begin the scheduling process nearly two months earlier than before.

“The academic advising staff will be holding advising appointment signups on September 4, 5, and 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside of the Millstein Library,” Shuey said. “No phone appointments will be accepted until after Sept. 8.”

Students should be aware that the new enrollment process will be the same as before only at an earlier date.

The self-enrollment portion will begin on Oct. 8.

“All students will be assigned a specific time on either Oct. 8 or 9 according to the number of earned credits to enroll themselves in classes for the Spring Semester,” Shuey said.

In addition to the new scheduling process, there is now a new location for the advising department. They have relocated to Millstein Library.

“Now that we are located in the same hallway as the registrar, financial aid and student accounts (offices), it provides a one stop service for the students,” Shuey said.

The benefits of the new self-registration process should be effective within a relatively short period of time.

“The new process will allow students to enroll in the classes that they are interested in, permit them to make the necessary changes to their schedule, without needing to wait in line to see an advisor,” Shuey said.

The advising department is currently working on notifying students about the self-enrollment process via e-mail. An e-mail announcing the process and timeline will be sent to students, Shuey said.

The academic advising department is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. To schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor, call 724-836-9940.
