As the spring semester of 2009 nears an end, the Student Government Association has given senior students something to look forward to.

The first annual senior week will be held during finals week, April 20-24.

SGA brainstormed to find a way to end their last week of college with a bang. Their $15,000 budget allowed them to bring the seniors a week full of free activities, both on and off campus.

All of the activities are available for all seniors who will be graduating in April, August or December of 2009, admission and bus rides are free. Seniors must wear the wristband given to them at activity sign-ups in order to participate in the events.

The first night of senior week, Monday, April 20 will consist of a free outdoor picnic held under the Alumni Pavilion at 4 p.m.

Tuesday night there will be a formal farewell dinner at 7:30 p.m. in the dining hall and a movie to follow at 9 and all seniors are allowed to bring one guest for both activities.

Alyson Galentine, parliamentarian, and Kristi Cummins, Vice-speaker of the house, planned Wednesday’s trip to the Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park. The bus will leave at 11 a.m. for the 12:30 game and will return at 4:30.

“We ended up planning the Pirates game because we had a night out in Pittsburgh planned to club-hop downtown, but the legal council on campus felt it wasn’t beneficial. We did some research and made phone calls to reserve a banquet room, but they still turned us down,” Galentine said.

Thursday will be a trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo with the bus leaving at noon and returning to campus at 5 p.m. Hillary Remmick, senate secretary, helped plan this event along with SGA President Sergey Blyakhor.

“All of us on SGA sat down and brainstormed a bunch of events that would be fun for the seniors and we planned out the entire week,” Remmick said. “I called the zoo to see if we could get a closer look at the animals but I never got a call back, either way it’ll still be fun.”

Students should plan to bring money for refreshments at the zoo and Pirates game.

To wrap up the week, Friday will be “Meet the Alumni” before graduation rehearsal under the Alumni Pavilion.
