Step Inside

About the Insider

The Insider, UPG’s student-run news source, is managed solely by UPG students. Though The Insider receives funding through Academic Affairs, all editorial decisions are made by the student staff. This Web site exists to provide the UPG community with a viable, unbiased news source and to give experience to students who are considering careers in journalism, Web site management and advertising. Founded as a print edition newspaper, The Insider migrated to the Internet in fall of 2006.

Opinions expressed on The Insider are not necessarily those of the student body, faculty or university administration. Opinions expressed in columns, cartoons and letters to the editor are not necessarily those of The Insider.

Letters to the editor are welcomed and encouraged. The Insider’s letters section is intended as a forum for the entire UPG community. Students, faculty, administration and employees are welcome to express their opinions. All letters intended for publication must include the author’s name, address, day/evening phone numbers and university affiliation. The Insider reserves the right to edit letters for style, brevity and accuracy. Anonymous letters will not be published.

Unless otherwise stated, all content – including, but not limited to, articles, photographs and cartoons – is property of The Insider and not for republication without permission from the Insider editor-in-chief or faculty adviser.

Join the Insider staff

The Insider always welcomes UPG students who are interested in helping provide content (articles, photographs or artwork), design, Web site management and advertising. If you are interested in learning about any of the above, e-mail UPGinsider@gmail.com, or stop by The Insider newsroom, which is located at 122 Village Hall (you can find our staff there at various hours of the day, but for Spring 2008, we're sure to be there on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon).

Students who wish to join the staff and receive academic credit for their editorial contributions should enroll in the UPG Press course (ENGWRT 1380, for three credits for first-time UPG staff writers; ENGWRT 1381, for two credits for those who have already taken the course). Intro to Journalism (ENGWRT 550) is a prerequisite that may be taken concurrently.
