On Saturday, April 28, at 2:30 p.m. on Ridilla Field the commencement and the happiest day for 185 deserving, hard working students will begin.
Dr. James Maher, provost and senior vice chancellor at the University of Pittsburgh will be the speaker.
Sheila Confer, a faculty member of UPG, explains a little bit about Maher’s past.
“He was appointed provost and senior vice chancellor In July 1994, following three years as chairman of the University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy and 24 years as a member of the faculty. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in physics from Yale University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame,” Confer said.
There will be a few awards given out, but the winners cannot be made public at this time.
“The PGAA (Pitt-Greensburg Alumni Association) gives an Alumnus of Distinction Award (which is part of the Commencement Program), an Outstanding Teaching Award (which is presented at the pre-commencement luncheon) and a Community Service Award (awarded to a student at the Annual Leadership Ceremony).” Confer said.
Along with these awards, the PGAA also selects two students to serve as ‘class agents’ for the class of 2007.
“I am not sure what their duties are, but the Class Agents for this year are Megan Walsh and Michelle Riley,” Confer said.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate on April 28, commencement will be held in the gymnasium.
