Australian professor to discuss relation between art and world changes

Ever wonder if art has any connections to the changes that have influenced our current state of being? A professor from Pitt-Oakland will be here to entertain the idea.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Campana Chapel, Terry Smith, Professor of Contemporary Art History and Theory at the University of Pittsburgh, will hold a seminar to explore contemporary art.

Vagina Monologues aim to help women around the world

The Vagina Monologues” will bring its audience to laughs and tears this week.

Now in its third year at Pitt-Greensburg, the production, which is sponsored by the Gay/Straight Alliance, involves mixed emotions to fight violence against women and girls.

Chicken and porn — just a part of being KISSED

The residence life staff wants to make sure you’re KISSED.

KISSED stands for Keep It Sexually Safe Every Day. ResLife got the idea from something Nurse Patty LaMantia had done before, and decided to use it again. The programs will focus on sexual health as well as other information regarding sex.

It will be a double homecoming when Dave Newman kicks off the Written/Spoken reading series this Thursday.

Newman, a Pitt-Greensburg graduate who taught writing courses on campus, plans to read new poems from his most recent chapbook, “Allen Ginsberg Comes To Pittsburgh,” along with some other new pieces.

Pitt-Greensburg making efforts to be green

It can be tough to be green at Pitt-Greensburg.

With its funding controlled by Pitt-Oakland, our campus has little control over the energy efficiency in the administrative buildings. Yet Joe Olczak, director of plant maintenance at Pitt-Greensburg, says Pitt-Greensburg’s efforts to be green are growing.

No changes coming to academic villages - yet

Rumors of change to the Academic Villages, mainly that the International Academic Village might close, aren’t true. Yet.

“The villages are a precious part of this school,” President Sharon Smith said. “There’s absolutely no indication that the IAV was being eliminated.”

New series of discussions to focus on love

The students and faculty of Pitt-Greensburg have the opportunity to participate in an introductory program that is all about love.

The All About Love series will be presented in Village Hall on Feb. 4, 11, and 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The series will alternate between film and discussion. It will be presented in three parts where the various facets of love will be explored by part-time instructor of English, Dr. Elaine Kelly.

Handwriting presentation to be given tonight by graduate of secret service program

Tonight at 7 p.m. in Village Hall, Michelle Dresbold will be holding a “Change Your Handwriting, Change Your Life” presentation.

Dresbold graduated from the United States Secret Service’s Advanced Document Examination Training Program, and has been featured on the CBS Early Show, the Today Show, the Fox Morning Show and others.

Construction on main entrance to campus makes for easier turns

This past December, maintenance was done to the main entrance of the school. It was decided in mid-November sometime before Thanksgiving break, when the Director of Plant Maintenance, Joe Olczak, was called and informed of the plans.

“We were lucky that we found an asphalt company that would do the work for us, because most come December,” Olczak said.
